A2i

The Assessment Intervention Team (A2i) are an NHS team made up of health and care professionals with different skills including mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, doctors, and psychologists.

The service is free and confidential.

A2i offer holistic assessments in-person to individuals with severe mental illness aged 18 and over. The appointment will involve the professional asking a series of questions and usually lasts around 45-60 minutes depending on what is discussed.

The team work closely with other mental health teams in the community, including GP surgeries and The Crisis Resolution Home Team (CRHT) to understand and assess your needs to help you recover.

The support offered to patients is personalised based on their needs and symptoms. The support and interventions can include:

  • Medication assessment
  • Intensive occupational therapy
  • Psychological assessment
  • Short-term (less than 6 months) evidence-based interventions

If longer term support is required, the patient can be referred to the Community Mental Health Team.

The team do not currently accept self-referral. However, patients can be referred by their GP, by calling 111 or any other professionals offering support including The Portsmouth Mental Health Hub.

All referrals can be sent electronically or in writing by a professional and the team aim to process each referral within 4-6 weeks. The team are available Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm excluding bank holidays.

The appointment will take place at St Mary’s Health Campus (PO3 6JX).

Other useful information

The team of friendly experts understand an appointment can be daunting and welcome family and friends to the appointment for support. Although, it is important to note speaking to patients alone is most valuable.

All patients will be offered a copy of their assessment following their appointment, which will detail what was discussed.
